Well, "formal" is more an attitude and "dress" for the role. My family was not rich, far from it. However, all children are required to arrive on time and dress for dinner. N T-shirt and jeans, good quality clothing. My father worked to bind. My mother had a beautiful dress. Always dressed for dinner. Nobody has ever before "late" and missed dinner, unless sufficient time to at least a day before. We had plastic dishes. Melmac is the trade name I remember. My mother called a civilized dinner. Of course, Customs has been a major concern. Thus, it is simply that all the clothes for the occasion. No T-shirts and jeans. No bare feet. No shirt, no shoes, no service. A jacket and tie may go too far. But everyone still plays dress for the occasion and is in his best performance, the loss of funds and the swearing-in pants without a hat in his hand and no sagging. And then when someone comes, not the standards, kicking. It will not help your social status, this time when the people of the designation is not wi-up to the dress code, butLL for the next time when they realize that they are really serious about dressing for dinner. You need a hard line with the guests and must lead by example. Play 50 games with clothing for all participants. If you allow neglecting people who are still too careless with their customs.

Plastic tableware is not official, unfortunately. Perhaps you could consider hiring some of the silverware, loans or finger foods that are not covered? Plastic table "cloths" are also a no-no. Use an empty, single, or loans. Fresh flowers are always good.
